Dayana Mendoza, 22 years old, representing her country, Venezuela, has been crowned Miss Universe 2008.

Doesn’t she look stunning? While Miss USA tripped on her gown, the second Miss USA to experience the same mishap after last year, Dayana Mendoza remained calm and poised through the pageant. She said that her experience as a kidnap victim when she was a child has been an invaluable experience which helps her to remain calm under tremendous pressure. Dayana Mendoza takes over from Miss Japan Riyo Mori who was Miss Universe 2007.
As an avid follower of beauty pageants, I am always amazed that there are these beautiful women vying for such prestigious titles year after year and they are so young. When I was that age, I was still so unsure of what I look for in life.
Congratulations to Dayana Mendoza. Once again, Venezuelan ladies have shown the world that Venezuela is a land of beauties!

She doesn’t look 22, maybe because of the eye makeup…but she’s still very pretty.

Hi Kym,
Actually they all look very mature. Sometimes it’s shocking to find out they are only in their late teens!

To digress, I don’t like Miss Japan from last year’s pageant. I found Miss Korea to be much cuter.
I’m watching the pageant on TV in half an hour. I think Australia must be the last country to be broadcasting it on free television worldwide.
