What is it with celebrities or the filthy rich and marriages? One minute they are together, the next they deny knowing each other. Then they get engaged, have a baby and get married, and not necessarily in this order!

The latest couple to split is sultry actress Salma Hayek and this filthy rich business man by the name of Francois-Henri Pinault. He is the CEO of PPR SA, the holding company of some of the largest fashion houses like Puma, Gucci and YSL Yves Saint Laurent.

Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault have been engaged for sixteen long months and they have a daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault. Oh, poor baby! Salma has once declared that she will never get married, so why, girl, did you get engaged, huh?

Dayana Mendoza, 22 years old, representing her country, Venezuela, has been crowned Miss Universe 2008.

Doesn’t she look stunning? While Miss USA tripped on her gown, the second Miss USA to experience the same mishap after last year, Dayana Mendoza remained calm and poised through the pageant. She said that her experience as a kidnap victim when she was a child has been an invaluable experience which helps her to remain calm under tremendous pressure. Dayana Mendoza takes over from Miss Japan Riyo Mori who was Miss Universe 2007.

As an avid follower of beauty pageants, I am always amazed that there are these beautiful women vying for such prestigious titles year after year and they are so young. When I was that age, I was still so unsure of what I look for in life.

Congratulations to Dayana Mendoza. Once again, Venezuelan ladies have shown the world that Venezuela is a land of beauties!
